Bracken has a variety of issues he deals with on a daily basis.
Amnesia
He has retrograde amnesia and doesn't remember much of anything before approximately four years ago. This is a problem that will never be fixed.
Forgetfulness
Tied in with the amnesia, he has problems retaining new information. It doesn't happen all the time, but once in a while an event will be completely wiped from his memory. These periods of times are usually short. If he spent and entire day with someone, he would remember spending the day with them. But he might completely be unable to recall when they stopped to get parfaits.
He can forget where he was going and why when he's en route somewhere. This can be an embarrassing and frightening condition for him. At this point, he's aware that he has it, so if someone were to tell him that they did something together he would believe them, even if it didn't happen.
At home he had a comforting method of handling these situations. It became apparent early on that he forgot things. In a teasing manner, Thistle clipped a note to him so that he wouldn't forget what he was supposed to do. As it became more apparent that Bracken had a serious problem and wasn't just 'kind of forgetful,' Thistle stopped teasing and started putting notes in his pocket whenever there was something he was supposed to do.
Bracken checks his pocket often because of this. Having a note prevents him from having to ask people what he's supposed to do - which was embarrassing for him. Thistle also occasionally left silly messages and complements for him, which made him feel better. Notes have been a safety net for him and he feels a lot better when he has one.
This isn't something he can recover from. For RP, I may use RNG to determine when he forgets things. Something like a 1/100 chance that he'll forget some part of something that happened.
Stuttering
Bracken is aware that he stutters and messes up when he speaks. He tends to avoid speaking a lot because of it. He does his best to pretend it doesn't happen and interact like normal, but at times of high stress it can get so bad that he can barely start a sentence. When he gets stuck, he gets more stressed as he desperately tries to finish, only to keep repeating the beginning of a sentence over and over again.
This is something that can improve with a lot of time and patience. He will never be entirely free of stuttering, but it can be reduced under the right circumstances.
When he repeats what others have said or reads he doesn't stutter nearly as much.
Lack of Vocabulary
If the average person knew 30,000 words in their native language, Bracken probably knows less than 10,000. He can figure things out based on context, but he will get lost easily if too much is dumped on him at once.
This is something he actively seeks to improve. He likes learning new words, and will copy people and look for chances to make use of his new shiny vocabulary words.
Lack of Emotional Control
He isn't an angry person or particularly impulsive, but he would struggle to hide how he feels and he responds emotionally very quickly.
This doesn't mean acting out. When he's around people, if they're partying and happy, he'll feel happy, even if he isn't good at socializing. Likewise, if everyone is crying, he'll feel down.
It doesn't have to be real people he's responding to. If he were to see a smiling emoji, it would start to make him feel happy. If he saw a sad one, he'd start feeling sad. Because of this, he tends to try and make everything happy.
Math
He greatly struggles with any math, but he often avoids situations where he needs to use it. He would trust someone to give him the right amount of change back without question and rarely needs to use it much in his day to day life.
He can improve this with time and studying.
Decision Making
He's terrible with decisions. He's very much a follower rather than a leader, and is more than happy to help. If he were taken to a restaurant, he'd love if someone else ordered for him because he can't choose. His best remedy for something like this is to randomly point at the menu and get whatever it is he happened to point at.
Slow Reactions
This might not always be noticeable to other people. To best put it, Bracken would not be able to drive a car because he wouldn't have the necessary reaction time to stop in an emergency. He just needs more time than other people.
He's best at reacting with his magic because he has used it for so many years.
Anxiety
He's a shy and anxious person. All of the above problems, understandably, make him even more-so.
'Depression' might not be the correct word for him, but he is aware of his problems, and they make him feel as if he can't live up to other people around him.
Perseveration
He likes having habits to follow. Having a note in his pocket made him feel better because it was consistent, he always knew where to check for it. Having certain chores to perform makes him feel better.
Impaired Reasoning
Along with the fact that he already has reality confused with an RPG world, he can have some difficulty following logic that other people can.
Impotency
In general, he's mostly impotent on his world.
In any games, this will be cured. However, he won't know it until he actually discovers it somehow.
It's important to note that despite these problems, it doesn't mean that he (or people like him in reality) don't have intelligence. He doesn't want to be talked down to or treated like a child. He wants to help and feel useful.
He will rise or fall depending on the people around him. At home, where he has found his place among friends, he does almost anything that's asked of him to help out and is among the strongest players because of his willingness to do tedious tasks for hours on end. In particular, he does a lot of the 'farming' to bring other people items they want.
In a bad situation, it would be easy to leave him feeling frustrated, isolated and depressed.
In RP, I certainly don't demand either of these situations from other people. Characters can react ICly to him however they would react, and he will act ICly in turn. I only want players OOCly to understand where he's coming from.
